What do bees actually do with pollen? Pollen is a honey bee's main source of protein and fats, honeybees cant consume pollen raw. So to consume the pollen the bees make something called bee bread, which is basically fermented pollen.
The bees make bee bread by adding honey and oral secretions to the pollen and then compacting it into cells. This bee bread will then be used to rear baby bees as the high protein content helps to raise them strong.
Bees don’t just need pollen to survive they also need nectar, Nectar is made up of a complex range of sugars which is where bees get their carbohydrates (energy) from. Here's a close-up of a lump of bee bread and then next to 1p to give you an idea of the size 🐝🐝
