I was upstairs looking out the window when something caught my attention hovering in front of the bee boxes so naturally, I run downstairs to go check it out and as I thought we have some new visitors, we already have about 4/5 species of bee laying in them throughout the course of the year but this is a new species to our boxes So id like to introduce to you Coelioxys elongate - the cuckoo leafcutter bee this badass bitch needs to be approached with caution as she will sting. The females have sharply pointed rears as seen in the picture whereas the males have several sharp spines, both males and females are black and white and almost hairless. These can be seen between June and September, across the country from Cornwall to Scotland in various habitats. Not the most uncommon of bees but we always welcome newbees to our bee boxes and I'm always like a kid at Christmas when they arrive.
