Do Only Honeybees Produce honey?

Annie Webb

It's not just honeybees who produce honey, out of 25,000 bees worldwide 7 produce honey, but honeybees are one of very few in the world that humans harvest honey from. There are a few reasons for that; honeybees are incredibly tidy, uniform creatures when it comes to building their colonies, which means it's very easy to take honey without causing damage to the brood or the colony itself. Bumblebees on the other hand are messy little buggers building brood stores amongst food stores meaning it's impossible to harvest honey without destroying the future generation of bees. Honeybees also produce honey in much larger quantities than other types of bees. Below is an example of how honeybees lay brood, compared to bumblebees ( i told you they were messy ) also can you spot the queen bumblebee in the bottom picture?
