The flying speeds of pollinators

Annie Webb

Here are some flying speeds of some of our pollinators, these do vary between species and with 1,400 species of bats and 15,000-20,000 species of butterflies do you really want to be that specific? 😅 The wind and rain can be a factor to speed, also for bees weighed down by fat pollen pants.

Honeybees - 15-20mph

Bumblebees - 6-10mph

Butterflies - 5-12mph - the fastest butterfly in the world can reach 37mph 😱

Yellow jackets - 6-7mph

Hornets - 15-25mph

Bats - 60-65mph

Robyn - 30-35mph

House sparrow - 17-24mph

It's amazing to think there's not much in it between a honeybee and a house sparrow, and I bet you didn’t know yellow jackets were that slow 🐝🐝
