Bees are exceptionally clean creatures taking house duties very seriously, during the winter when it is to cold and wet for the bees to fly they hold their poo in for up to months at a time (talk about touching cloth ) once it is warm enough for the girls to venture out they go on what we call a cleansing flight, which is a nice way of saying a poop flight us Beeks are often aware of when this is happening by the bee crap on our cars and bee suits etc. Sometimes large amounts of faecal matter around the entrance of the hive can be a sign of high levels of nosema in the bees, I have made a blog post about nosema further down if you are interested in what it is and how it affects honey bees. So next time you see these little orange and yellow marks on your car you know a pollinator had a poo on you.
